Dr Penny Sartori worked as a nurse in a British hospital for 21 years, 17 of those being in Intensive Care. She is highly
experienced and skilled in her role as an intensive care staff nurse; and has conducted unique and extensive research
into the near-death experiences (NDEs) of her patients. In 2005 she was awarded a PhD for her research into NDEs.

Dr Sartoriís work has received worldwide attention and media coverage. She has spoken at many conferences both
nationally and internationally and her work has received the attention of HRH Prince Charles.

Penny Sartori was a nurse for 17 years in the Intensive Therapy Unit of a major hospital. Early in her career, a connection
she made with a dying patient totally changed her life. After undertaking a five year research project into near-death
experiences, Penny was awarded a PhD and has written, lectured and broadcast widely, and is now one of the UK's
foremost experts on the subject of NDEs

Iíve got a little bit more information on what the book is about. As you all know by now, the reason I became interested
in NDEs is because of my job as an intensive care nurse. Early in my career, my life changed when I was working a night
shift while looking after a dying patient. Having been so upset about the way in which this man died I was determined
to find a greater understanding of death so that no other patient would have to go through a similar ending to their life.

That was back in 1995 and the experience of looking after that patient is what continues to motivate me to this day to
understand death and enhance care of dying patients.
